History

For more than 40 years, Balchem has perfected the art of protecting nutrient quality and viability through its patented encapsulation technology called Shure™ Technology.  Today, Balchem’s Shure™ Technology protects more than 140 different products across human, animal and industrial applications.

In 1999, Balchem’s Animal Nutrition and Health Division was formed to bring the benefits of their Shure™ Technology to animal agriculture.  Balchem’s Shure™ Technology allows nutrients to be delivered to targeted locations consistently and efficiently within the animal’s digestive system. 

In the case of ruminants, microencapsulation allows nutrients to bypass the rumen for delivery to the small intestine.  Because the rumen degrades almost everything it encounters, protecting critical nutrients through microencapsulation is essential in order to meet the nutrient requirements of today’s high producing dairy cows.

In 2011, Balchem leveraged its growing expertise in encapsulation technology to refine and improve its manufacturing processes.  These advancements have provided improvements in nutrient concentrations and has placed it best in class cost position for delivering encapsulated nutrients to livestock.
