Methyl Chloride

Methyl Chloride is used principally as an intermediate chemical, particularly in the production of silicone intermediates and quaternary ammonium compounds. Intermediate end uses include protective colloids, paper processing, herbicides and agricultural chemicals, butyl rubber and pharmaceutical products. It is also used for increasing the viscosity of water-based paints, and for adding thickening and adhesive properties in dry wall cements.

Methyl Chloride is a colorless gas that is shipped as a liquid under pressure. It is extremely flammable, and its odor is difficult to detect in air. The vapor is moderately flammable, and it can produce severe toxic effects during prolonged exposure to high concentrations.
